Nautica Swing

Nautica, designed by Alberto Sánchez (Mut Design) for the Spanish Expormim, has been awarded with the prestigious Red Dot 2014 for the best product design.

Nautica is a hanging chair that pays homage to one of the first pieces created by Expormim in the 70s. The swing is intended to surprise and rethink the use of rattan. Nautica stands out thanks to the subtle play of shadows resulting from its movement, which mirrors the reflection of sunlight falling on ocean waves. Despite its visual lightness, the piece is notable for its sturdiness and resistance.

Using craftsmanship as a means of expression is practiced by only a few companies these days, and Expormim is one of such company. The region of ‘La Costera’, home to the town of Moixent, where Expormim is located, has a long tradition of craftsmanship using materials such as wicker, esparto and cane.

Founded in 2010 by designer Alberto Sánchez, MUT Design Studio is formed by a multidisciplinary team. Their inspiration comes from nature, making up the puzzle of their daily lives. Experimenting with those everyday objects in order to redefine them is one of their bred-in-the-bone hallmarks.
