U Lamp (Matte White Terrazzo)

Many older Malaysian houses used concrete ventilation blocks to allow air to circulate between spaces, and Ming grew up in a home featuring these “breeze” blocks prominently as practical and decorative devices. U Lamp explores the spirit of these angular blocks in the form of a polished terrazzo stone bracket, juxtaposed against a long rectangular column of light.

A typography major from the United Kingdom, Wei Ming practised as a graphic designer for a couple of years after returning to Kuala Lumpur. Her passion for furniture and lighting design spurred her to explore beyond the two-dimensional. Wei Ming continues to draw influences from her graphic design background where geometry, forms, proportions and balance come into play.
